What is ucsc impacted majors?

UCSC impacted majors are those majors that have more students applying for enrollment than the university can accommodate. These majors have strict admission criteria, limited spots, and higher competition level for securing admission. Impacted majors vary each year based on the university's capacity and demand from students.

UCSC offers more than 70 majors, including majors in engineering, sciences, social sciences, and the humanities. Some of the popular impacted majors at UCSC include Computer Science, Biological Sciences, Psychology, Business Management Economics, and Environmental Studies.

Admission to impacted majors is highly competitive, and students must fulfill specific prerequisites and have a strong academic performance to be considered. For example, students applying for Computer Science must have completed specific mathematics and computer science courses with excellent grades.

Students who are not admitted to their preferred impacted major can apply for undeclared majors, where they can take courses that satisfy general education requirements or explore other major options before declaring one. Alternatively, students may opt to transfer to another institution or apply to less competitive majors within UCSC.
